The future of GMO'S begins with us!
The future of GMO'S begins with us! Will your health will one day depend on how wealthy you are!
Today more and more of our food contain GMO's. People who can't afford USDA
Organic Foods will be at greater risk to the potential hazards posed by GMO'S. Farming
organically will become more and more difficult as a result of competition from huge
agricultural companies engaged in all aspects of the GMO industry. One thing is certain,
most all soybeans and corn in the United States is genetically modified. Europeans
have outlawed genetically modified foods.
Recently in California, citizens tried to get foods produced genetically labeled. The food
industry lobbied against Proposition 37 and spent nearly $46 million dollars to stop the
bill from passing during the 2012 presidential election. The food industry argued scared
and convinced people once again to vote against what would have protected them from
the potential risk these foods pose to all of us. So now we still have no clue what foods
are genetically modified? Don't we have the right to know? As of this writing the bill
failed to pass in California. (11/7/2012) So the answer is NO we don't have the right to
know!! Imagine that Californians had passed the bill. How long do you think it would
have taken for similar bills to be voted on and passed in other states?
Why not try and get something going here in Florida or your own State. Let's make big
agriculture spend $46 million x 49 more States to stop us from knowing what is tainted with
genetically modified organisms. Sure they can afford to spend that kind of money, so is
it any wonder our food is so expensive? Is it me; am I nuts, does that make sense? How
much could it have cost to label a box or a package? Give us a break!
Today as you can clearly see from what happened in California, big agriculture calls the shots. Consumers and conventional farmers are stuck and dependent on a non-sustainable, twisted system of food production.
Health matters nothing, only money.
Consumers and farmers are being forced to comply and conditioned to fail without them. Yes, I said forced and conditioned. Money may not buy you love but it will buy politicians and apparently they love money!
So how is anyone being forced to farm a certain way?
Conventional farmers purchase seeds that are Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) so they can produce more and more food. They hope to get a higher return on investment with these super seeds.
These farmers purchase chemical insecticides and weed killers to spray these super
seeds. The weeds, insects, diseases etc are destroyed but the GMO seed grown plants
are fine. Question: What about us, are we okay?
As our conventionally grown foods nutrition decreases and toxicity increases the demand for organic food will explode! Supply and demand controls the price of all goods and services, everyone knows this is true.
As consumers, we eat the GMO foods and we end up with the genes from the
GMO seed plants. The farmer ends up trapped buying chemical and GMO seeds. This
is great marketing and great business on the part of big agriculture.
The increasing introduction of GMO in farming and the farmers' dependence on this
GMO system is in many peoples' opinions very dangerous! Besides the health concerns
let me bring up one more important point. I expect the price of organic foods, which do
not contain GMO, to skyrocket. The less affluent in our society will not be able to afford
naturally grown nutritious foods to be healthy.
We are living in a time of great change. We need to go back to natural farming and we
need to do it locally and help all people to eat healthy. One way to start is to grow your
own vegetables and plant fruit trees. It would be great if food was grown naturally. Profit
however dominates all aspects of food production and our society in general. Don't get
me wrong here. Profit is not a dirty word, greed however is! Please stay informed and
do your own research.
Genetically modified organisms should not be in our food! We have the right to know
what companies are doing to the food we eat. As consumers we can speak our minds
with our dollars.
Would you want to eat corn that contained genes resistant to weed killers? How about
eating foods that have insecticides already in the genes of the plant you will consume.
Today BT is being added and it has been found in the intestines of people. BT is a
natural bacteria used to kill many crop destroying caterpillars. Now we have human
intestinal flora that is at risk of being infected by BT. GMO also combines genes with
growth regulating hormones and gene splices that alter the natural composition of the
We need to learn more and demand that action be taken. For all of us that want to grow
organic foods for our health and our planets health GMO is just one more challenge we need to face and stop it from spreading!
Do what you think is right but be aware and research what is being done to the food we
eat! Don’t believe me, go out and research.
